e-cigarettes

Vaping devices, also known as e-cigarettes, are an increasingly popular alternative to traditional tobacco-based products.

It works by having you inhale a vapour, which is often flavoured – liquids come in flavours like bubblegum, watermelon and strawberry.

They are quite easy to pick up, but it helps to know what to expect before you start out. Read on to learn how to start vaping in 5 simple steps.

1.     Have a purpose

The first step is to figure out why you want to use e-cigarettes. Is it to help you quit smoking? Do you simply enjoy the sensory part of vaping? And do you want to be discreet or obvious when you vape? Asking yourself these questions will help you figure out which products to buy.

2.     Choose a device

Once you have figured out what kind of experience you want, it’s time to choose your device!  Keep in mind that any device you select will consist of the following three main components:

  • Battery
  • Atomiser
  • E-liquid.

From there, you have a few options. Vape pens are a discreet, convenient way to edge into the world of vaping. If you want a bigger hit, go for vaping mods – these are larger and customisable, and while the battery will need to be charged more frequently than a pen, they will deliver a more powerful experience. Pods are the newest style of e-cigarettes, and are something of a middle-ground between pens and mods. Pods are portable yet powerful, and come in disposable and reusable varieties.

3.     Choose an e-liquid

You’ll then need to load up your device with some juice. The liquid you’ll use in your e-cigarettes consists of flavourings and a humectant (this creates the vapour), along with nicotine if you so choose. You have two main decisions to make when it comes to choosing your liquid: how much nicotine you want, and what flavour you want. Nicotine options include 0, 1.5mg/ml, 3mg/ml, and 6mg/ml. Simply purchase it, pop it into your device and start vaping!

4.     Stock up on parts

The main spare parts you will want to have on you are batteries (if your device has a replaceable battery) and coils. Coils are located inside the tank of all e-cigarettes and heat up the liquid. They should be replaced as per your device’s instructions – you can usually tell if it needs replacing when the taste of your vape starts to go “off”. How often you’ll need to replace the coils depends on how often you vape – it could range from one week to four. Make sure you get parts which are compatible with your chosen device.

Read your device’s instructions

Even though we would like to say otherwise, it is not enough to just read this article. You will also need to read your e-cigarettes unique instructions to make sure you know how to use that particular device properly – every model is a little bit different! Doing so will help ensure that your vaping experience is as optimal as it can be.

A handy tip is to wait five minutes before you start vaping from a fresh device. Waiting after filling your device with liquid will help you dodge a “dry hit” (bad flavour) which can also ruin the coil, and ensure the coil is totally soaked.

So there you have it; five simple steps for starting to use e-cigarettes. Make sure you follow all instructions and use it properly to avoid damage to your device. Vaping devices should not be given to minors (under 18 or 21 depending on where you live).
